The Adventures of a Solitary Soul - H. J. Sharp |
Dream 6 - The proliferation of the Angels
By 1932 when I was 10 and active with physical interests, swimming and running, conscious of my feelings and applying my intellect to reading, looking for answers about how it all ticked, I began to notice that the Angel was no longer single. There was still what I took to be the Observing, Guardian Angel present whenever I was making an effort to observe myself in relation to external reality. In addition, however, there were on occasions other subsidiary Angels as it where. One when I was being overwhelmed by feelings of fear, of delight, of hunger, of tiredness, and another when I was enthralled by some new intellectual insight arising from my reading of the library books. And there was another that would seem to direct my swimming and later my running. A few years on when I had been able to persuade my mother to send me to a secondary school, I became a cross country runner. On occasion, when I got into my stride, after a mile or so, it was as if I overcame the resistance of my physical body and just ran. This state is what I understood athletes refer to when they talk about getting their "second wind". It is then that your physical body operates at the command of some higher entity which is able to direct it, not to reach beyond its physica1 limits, but to operate near to such limits. On such occasions it was as if I became one of the subsidiary Angels, the one responsible for all the movement aspects of my physical body, or to put it another way, my consciousness was the Moving Angel.
