Dream 23 -
The higher civil service
The
previous dreams, particularly the last two, would seem to pave the way for this
one. It came in June 1989.
The
dream started with my being in a discussion with some civil servants about old
peoples club affairs, the strategy and tactics for expansion. After the
discussion there was a very important session in which I was being prepared to
meet someone in higher authority. Up till now all the characters were male.
I
was then allowed into the inner sanctum, with even those from the outer office
who came with me, in a state of awe and wonder. In the dream there was no doubt
in my mind that this was the moment when one's consciousness moves from the
outer mind to the inner unconscious mind and meets the Anima or Animus, I met
what could be described as "The Minister". This was a very frail young
dark haired woman. She was lying prone on her stomach on a low bed, very close
to the earth. She was smoking a cigar and yet at the same time she was smoking a
cigarette. So there were two lots of fire. She was also sipping a glass of
water. So here we have three of the four elements, earth, fire and water, which
together with the air in the room make the four.
She
spoke slowly and very quietly and very distinctly. But the most impressive thing
about it all was that she spoke with absolute authority. She gave me permission
to go to the next stage very shortly and would support me in my efforts. The
special quality about the dream was its absolute authority, so there was no need
for the voice to be raised and only the minimum of words were used. Although the
female figure had a physical body and a relationship to the earth, she was
operating on a much higher level and this level was almost her total concern.
So
here the basic pattern of the dream is moving from the lower to the higher level
and meeting the guide of the higher level, the Anima.
